What I think they are failing to grasp is that prior to this virus there were an average of 1500 deaths each day in the UK, these are still going to happen each and every day, the deaths caused by this virus are in addition to these.
Anyone that's spent any time as a hospital inpatient in the last few years would already know our hospitals are full and working at maximum capacity, none of that has gone away. it's still there and the virus in addition to that.
