I was waiting on the curb for a few minutes an officer approached me. He asked me for license registration and insurance. he said you have stayed here for too long. then he went to his car and got back to me with a ticket improper parking Statute 39:4-135. can he give me a ticket for improper parking ?? what are the tickets given at the airport for standing and their statue ?? I was not really Park at the terminal!!! on the back of ticket it says Parking ticket would not to the driving record?? does anyone have any experience? the last question is about the ticket itself this statue is about the distance of the car and curb and side of traffic, this is the complete statue " http://www.njlaws.com/39-4-135.html " should I contest the ticket?? any suggestion would be appreciated!!

I know it was a very uncomfortable experience, but the PAPD was acting like the meter maid in Hoboken. Actually, parking tickets in Hoboken are much greater.

Uber may or may not pay this. Just tell them they were harassing you. You presented all your documents and were nice to them. They gave you a stiff warning and wrote you a parking ticket. In any event, its the cost of doing business at the airport. I just got this ticket myself. I was surfing the web, which goes against my very own advice, and not paying attention. They pounced. When you are at the airport, turn off the radio, dont surf, but be very alert and move quickly when you see the officer. The moment you glimpse that uniform you should reflexively move move move. Do not think. Hit the gas.

The officers at the airport do not hide, but they will move in and out of the area quickly. It is your responsibility to get out of their way and not to attempt pickup or dropoff in front of them. You cant stand in front of them. You deserve the ticket if you dont move when you see them or you get distracted and they pounce.

In any event, I am getting my TLC plates and license so I can legally do business at the airport and all they can give me is the no standing ticket. I wouldnt mind getting that ticket every once in a while if I can pull 300 a day from the airport.

BTW you did right by taking the ticket without debate. Had you debated or made a scene or resisted he would have come up with more tickets. Gotten his buddies to sweat you. The PACops are not honest officers, but wild west cops. Its their town. Smile, say you have no questions and leave. Dont contest it. Waste more time in court to find out its legit.

Yup Man I knew it, I got the ticket without any argument and left. I hope your tickets will get resolved pretty soon. BTW do you know this parking ticket goes to driving abstract or not ?
If it does or it doesnt it wont count towards insurance premium or points. I have lots of Hoboken and NYC tickets as well as toll violations. I still have good driver discount. Everyone gets parking tickets.

You are right! but I wasn't park there the reason I didn't argue with PAPD because of additional tickets. but if it goes to my driving abstract I'd go to the court and argue with the prosecutor with this statue and ask for discovery. On the back of ticket there is notice which clearly state "Except for a parking ticket, a record of this conviction will be sent to the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) that issued your license."

Those tickets can be issued across the entire United States at EVERY airport. You must move along and cannot park or leave your vehicle. Your party must be ready to be dropped off and picked up or you must circle and never ever leave your vehicle. I still see morons park and go I side to help with luggage (usually a family member not drivers) leaving their car unattendanted only to come back with cops circling with a ticket pad.

No standing??? I wasn't park there, I was in the car ;)
"Parking" is when you leave the car, "Standing" means you are behind the wheel while stopped waiting.

I didn't leave the car, I was in the car :) but he gave me Improper Parking!
I looked it up. It does say "stop, stand or park"

So this wont go on the abstract because it is a parking ticket. I have my yellow ticket copy right here in front of me an on mine they circled "Park". Lets say you challenged it just like you said. You would spend gas, tolls, and time getting there. You would be standing right next to people who did real crimes, a rough bunch. Since you wouldnt be attorney represented they would put you at the end of the line and make you wait. You would talk to the prosecutor and they might swing you a deal...but this is only $54. In that time, you could be circling around Hoboken and made back the $54.

Send it to Uber and see if they will reimburse you. Tell Uber the cop was harassing you and asking if you are an Uber drive. They couldnt find anything so they wrote you a parking ticket.

I wan't against traffic, and he didn't care about the six inches from the curb at all. The only thing he mentioned was you stayed here for too long!!!
It might be a bad ticket. You might be able to get it dismissed, but like I said, is it worth it for $54?

you know, they are giving out bad tickets like this one and yours and put you in a dark situation, like shall I go to the court and waste a day in there or just pay the $54? you know what I mean?? they are keep giving same bad tickets and no one ever goes and defend it!!!
I know and Ive been to that Newark court for the no left turn ticket. Ultimately, the ticket was thrown out, but I had to go three times and a visit to the city engineers office. Each time I went back, I spent at least 4 hours in there looking at other cases. The attorney represented cases went first and I saw a lot of guys get out of their tickets with a good attorney. One guy got out of like 5 different tickets because the cop didnt show up. So just a heads up of what you can expect challenging that 54 dollar parking ticket.
Ticketing T&LC drivers last night like crazy. Not sure why but they were lined up in bunches getting multiple tickets. I must of saw at least 10 but kept away from those areas. Can only imagine how many more.
The arrival areas have become a "no go" zone. Even if I was going to pick up a friend or family member from the airport for free, I would park in short term parking and go and get them to avoid any misunderstandings. I can imagine there have been some misunderstandings of regular non-Uber people picking up their friends and family. Probably a few people end up in court arguing they are not Uber. The cops have been coming in earlier and at unexpected times with strength and aggression. The departure areas are a bit more relaxed although there are police present at times. You can just go ahead and assume the Port Authority cops are looking and they know what to look for.

I do think part of the reason they are doing this is because the taxis are on their last leg. The airport is a business and the taxis pay to be at the airport either through pre-negotiated amounts to the Port Authority in a legit manner or under the counter in white envelopes to the authority's leadership (bribes). The airport taxis seem to be many years old. broken down and with very questionable drivers. I also think there are legitimate safety and terrorism concerns. It seems very dangerous to have this amount of cars stopped waiting. I think one day they might do away with the curbside drop/pickup and just use the short term parking area for that purpose. Its impossible to safeguard the airport from a car bomb how its designed now and I dont think a terrorist would be scared away by the officers ticket book.

As soon as you enter the airport there is a cellphone lot. One side is where the taxis go, at any given time there may be no taxis in there or 20 lined up and they release the cabs as needed. The other side is where anyone picking someone up can go and wait so when whoever you are picking up is ready they can text or call you and you drive right up. The only people waiting on the ramp are Uber cars so its not exactly rocket science to know who is Uber.

Newark airport is loaded with @ least 4-5 cops at arrivals looking into cars with what I guess window/vent mounts with Uber Phone and also saw one flashlight the rear passenger seating to my guess is Chargers/water/mints all signs you are UBER. Also that PA Suv goes in so many circles most likely zoning in with license plate reader. My method of attack which I believe some tech savvy Uber drivers are using as I was hanging by the 711 is Fake your location to get a Ping (Saw a few cars on pax app just sitting as I was on the terminal remotely close by ) and Instruct PAX on the Go where to meet you Preferably at non arrival area.

I waited down the block to see who showed up and after 7 min I saw this Honda CR-V ( green) with an older guy driving it ( 60's) and I said poor bastard hope you don't get the cops at the airport
The guy looked Latino the females going to ewr were from Haiti hardly spoke any English good luck trying to explain that to pa imagine how long it took them to get out of that car and get going baby grandmother mother stroller chair 3 suitcases lol not me buddy I'm in I'm out under 20 seconds pull up phone out the way pax already knows what to do pull to curb open door get out grab your bag move on I'm out not coming back around to circle just to be seen again no I'm out there move on
I did have a couple from Hoboken the other day I had the guy sit in the front wife in the rear drive up to curb I jumped out went to the back grabbed both suitcases dropped them at the curb shake his hand hug the wife and wish them a nice vacation to wine country the guy (very cool indeed) replied thanks for ride the bbq was great last night can't wait to come back and have me and my wife over for dinner " say hi to the kids" has he walked away
