I'm going back to rating uber passengers 1 star when I find out they work in a service industry. Last night I had 3 rides with food servers and bar tenders. None of them tipped. I asked the last guy why he would use Uber when he works for tips yet uber won't build the ability for passengers to voluntarily tip. He said he doesn't know. He has been using uber since the beginning.

And he still did not tip you?

To me, that's just an insult... man, some people..

I'm starting to Star more asshats....I'm done with some of these riders. Hope they get dropped from the platform.... eventually. I'm looking harder at ratings of pax to see if I want to accept. They have a low rating for a reason...so pass on that asshat.

No, he didn't. I assumed I wouldn't be tipped because I pointed out the hypocrisy. I have the whole ride on video. I'm going to talk to a lawyer about how I can start posting videos to the Internet
You can blur the pax's face if you have an editing tool to do that. Totally legal. No lawyer needed!

Honest question does passenger rating make any difference? Do they get locked out below 4 stars or something? I've had retaliatory 1 stars given after I rate passengers low for various reasons.
I don't know if there is a low rating threshold for passengers that drops them....but all drivers do see the low rating & choose to pass on these asshats when they pop up. I will. Done with low grad human behavior.

Picked a girl up from werewolf downtown back to OB. She was complaining about her work to me but said she just made $350 that shift so it is what it is. Obv no need to tip your driver with uber tho! Should have 1 starred her looking back.
Go back and change your rating on the ride under trip history. I just mentioned this shit to a bar manager at ballast point. Counting tips and stiffing me is auto 2 star maximum.

You can still do that. Go back and change your rating.
I for one have given up on expecting any tips from the Uber generation. Uber is hard at work reminding everyone there's no need to tip. It's just exhausting work trying to convince them otherwise....

So hey mister or Miss service industry tip earning worker person, what would you say if you started your shift tomorrow and the management had a big sign out front that said no tip needed, it's included with your meal/drink? Well you would ask where is the tip and then they would say oh yeah, I guess that isn't included oops! Then they post a new sign out front that say tips are no longer expected or needed! So what would you do? Yeah, well that is what happened to Uber drivers. Think about it next time you stiff an Uber driver.

Of course you could never have that conversation but it is the truth and add to that convo oh and btw that is the policy of all the other restaurants/bars now...well except that pink one down there, the one with the big fluffy mustache on it and some guy standing at the door madly fist bumping anyone within range. They allow and even encourage tips but guess what? So many people work there and most of the customers now go to the no tip expected places it's not gonna make that much of a difference, nothing like it used to anyway. Or something like that...it's late lol

It's really really hard to argue with Stupid!
They all know that Uber drivers are in the service industry and should get tipped but they found a way out with Uber "no tip needed crap" constant reminders. Bottom line, they just don't care!

Every time a tip discussion gets brought up, you have
  • The blank stares from the wealthy - rich people just don' wanna be bothered with your problems
  • The pep talk from the sympathizers - Oh Waoo we didn't know Uber was like that.
  • The How great of a service Uber is from the clueless and idiot first time users. "Does Uber pay for your gas and provide you with the car? so far, we've had a very good experience with the service..."
  • And of course ex Trolley and bus users now have a new toy called Uber and they do not know how to behave so they misbehave.... they'll ask for aux cords, water, mints etc ... on their $ 3.20 rides.
But yet no tip...

And the list goes on :)

Now the few decent ones out there and I mean very few do not need any convincing ... they know it's the right thing to do!

When passengers ask me for mints and water I tell them "you're paying 1.15 a mile. Uber takes 28% and the cost of upkeep on this vehicle isn't paid by uber. I profit close to .25 cents per mile and you're asking me to buy you water and mints? I don't know a single UberX driver who does that anymore. If you know of one give me their number so I can tell them what a moron they are."

Got my first 1 star last night from a stripper. This was after she complained about her day and how it was the slowest night ever only making $200-250. Even made a stop for her but told her I don't let people eat in my car. She kept passively-aggressively saying, "don't worry I'm not going to eat in your car" multiple times. I responded "don't worry, I'm not worried you're going to eat in my car."
Sucks feeling helpless at the hands of these extremely ignorant people's demands just to not get 1 star'd.

It is really hard for me to not become a complete ass in the situations where you know they will be giving you a bad rating. Sometimes I just give up and end up kicking them out then and there.

1 star well effect a passengers rating more than it will effect yours. It's funny how passengers and drivers don't consider that drivers have hundreds of ratings vs 10s of ratings for passengers. Get a dashcam pointing into your vehicle to document the degenerates and start handing out low ratings.
